Mrs Sparrow continues golf comeback
Mary' Sparrow continued her strong comeback in Canterbury women’s golf with two wins in the silver division (0-9) matchplay competition held by the Canterbury District Ladies' Golf Association at Kaiapoi recently. Mrs Sparrow beat a Russell Grace representative. Adrienne Bond. 2 up. in the morning round and accounted for Jackie Benschop. 2 and 1. in the afternoon. The silver competition provided a useful lead to the selection of the Russell Grace competition in May. It involves match-play over five rounds. Diane Ritchie played the perfect shot on the short fifth hole at Kaiapoi. She used a 2-iron. Results of the third and fourth rounds were:— Third round.— Mrs J. Ross beat Mrs N. Mann, 3 and 2: Miss D. Woodhouse beat Mrs A. King. 1 up; Mrs D. Dobson beat Mrs G. Cameron, 4 and 3; Mrs D. Ritchie beat, Miss S. Hiichon. 3 and 2:
Miss C. Sullivan beat Mrs J. Benschop. 5 and 3; Miss L. Watts beat Mrs J. Germon, 1 up; Mrs M. Shaw lost to Miss L. McClurg. 2 down; Mrs N. Poskitt beat Miss J. Hitchon. 2 up; Mrs M. Sparrow beat Mrs A. Bond, 2 up; Mrs R. Clinton lost to Mrs W. Storey, 1 down; Mrs C. Skinner lost to Mrs S. Haydon. 2 and 1; Mrs M. Lavery beat Mrs J. Robertson. 4 and 3.
