Big promotion at Q.E. II Park

The Christchurch Greyhound Racing Club, in conjunction with 3ZB, have planned their biggest promotion for a greyhound meeting for Friday evening at Queen Elizabeth II Park. The highlight of the entertainment will be an attempt by an Aucklander, Jon Zealando, to escape from a straight jacket while suspended upside down 20m in the air. Zealando is a. Benny Award winner, the New Zealand variety artists highest honour for outstanding achievement. A number of novel races are planned. One will feature a greyhound (Tide Song) racing against a cyclist (John Cleary), a paraplegic in a wheelchair (Graham Condon), and a prominent Canterbury athlete, Wayne Paul.

Apart from the greyhound races, there will be races for Afghan hounds, whippets and salukis.

Children will have their own special entertainment in the form of a fancy dress parade and monster lolly scramble. The promotion has taken several months to organise and is the most ambitious attempted by the club.
