Cycling amalgamation

Forty-eight years of separate development might be nearing an end for the two national cycling associations in New Zealand. At a meeting in Christchurch during the week-end, the New Zealand Professional Cycling Association agreed to join the National Cycling Federation. The latter body has existed for- twtf years, as a type of “umbrella” for the amateur association and the schools.’

association. In that time, and longer, talks have been going on between the amateur and professional associations, aimed at world recognition of this country’s professional, or cash, riders, and opening the way for combined racing in New Zealand. The delegates from the amateur and professional associations will now report to their councils, then meet again next month to formulate a programme of open races.
