Pro bowls qualifiers
Christchurch's first professional bowlers will be found at Linwood this afternoon when the club’s Runaway Holidays-sponsored tournament is finalised. 1 The eight qualifiers from the six rounds at the weekend were Elwyn Judson (Papanui), whose team is being skipped by lan Scott, Tony Thrower (Hornby), Jack Dale (South Brighton), Brian MtfGowan (Papanui), Bruce McNish (Balclutha)? who has a composite South Otago team, Eric Tomlinson (Redcliffs), Murray Hibbard (Christchurch) and . Kevin McMenamin (Papanui). In the quarter-finals this
morning Judson will play Thrower, Dale McGowan, McNish Hibbard and Tomlin-son-McMenamin. The tournament is the first registered open tournament staged in Canterbury. It car- ‘ ries almost 32500 in prizemoney with the major prize being a return trip to Brisbane for the four members of the winning team. Judson’s team was the only entry to win all its six qualifying matches. McNish, Dale, and McMenamin came through with the five wins and Thrower, McGowan, Tomlinson, and Hibbard had the best points diffentials of the four-game winners.
