Surf lifesaving championships

PA Dunedin St Kilda .emerged as the champion men’s . team through its supremacy in the swimming events when the national surf-lifesaving championships ended at Warrington Beach, near Dunedin, yesterday. St Kilda won four gold medals in both the senior and junior men’s events. It finished 7.5 points ahead of Waikanae (Wellington) with a big gap to Waihi (Thames Valley) in third place. Geoff Walker (Waimairi), the former New Zealand representative- pool swimmer, became the outstanding individual performer by winning five gold medals. lt was a versatile performance by one of the most experienced competitors at the championships. ' Waimairi . also won the Ladies 21 Club Trophy for the women’s, competition, gaining an eight-point advantage over Paekakariki (Wellington). ■ Janice Murdoch, who beat Rebecca Perrot in the sprint to the tape to win the individual surf race, was the outstanding .individual in the Waimairi team.
