Nuclear weapons
Sir,—What an absurd, up-side-down world we live in. A peace protester in Hawaii, Jim Albertina-(“The Press,” March 4), who is accused of handing out peace pamphlets and holding a banner which said, "End the Arms Race” is accused of being anti-defence and subversive. The Judge in settling for a stiff penalty goes so far as to call him a “psychopath.” So what, are we to call those who make these devilish weapons such as neutron bombs and Trident submarines? What are we to call those governments which sanction the arms race? Presumably by the earlier reasoning they are the “sane” ones? Just who is kidding who in this macabre game?—Yours, etc JILL WILCOX. March 4. 1982.
