Antique valuations popular

About $lOO was raised by the antique valuation service offered yesterday by members of the Canterbury Antique Collectors Club at Farmers-Haywrights store in Cashel Street. Members of the public paid 50c an object for the service, which the club is offering to raise money to refurbish the Kilmarnock Room in Riccarton House. The store manager, Mr A. Still, said 60 people telephoned to ask about the service during the first halfhour the store was open. A “steady stream” of people had entered the store with objects to be valued.' The valuations are being made by Mrs Ruth Verstraete and Mrs Teresa MacIntyre, who are both licensed second-hand dealers. It is not necessary to hold any licence or qualification to value antiques in New Zealand. The service is being offered today and tomorrow between 10.30 a.m. and 3.30 p.m.
