‘Aust. sharemarket crash not over’
{ PA Sydney i The Australian shareI market crash is far from I finished, according to a leadi ing stockbroker company, | Potter Partners. I ’ Since the beginning of the ■ year 15 per cent has been I slashed from the all-ordin-I aries index. ! The company said that it ■ believed the impetus for the rest of the downwards move ■ would come from the indusI trial sector, and not the ; highly-volatile resource area I of the market.
It said the relatively small decline in the industrial index — 12.5 per cent — and the gap between dividend yield and bond yield indicated that the worst was yet to come. This year the resources index has fallen 18 per cent. The company warned that many leading industrial stocks had already been discounted by between 20 and 45 per cent; and that takeover activity and speculation had held up that sector of the market.
