Top N.I. bowlers rested
PA Wellington The North Island cricket selectors have rested frontline New Zealand bowlers Lance Cairns. Gary Troup and Martin Snedden for the three-day match against Australia which will start in February 22. Also absent from the North Island side is batsman Bruce Edgar. The selection gives Edgar's successful Wellington Shell competition team-mates John Morrinson and Evan Gray the chance to show their capabilities against the Australian pace attack. The rivalry between Wellington's Ewan Chatfield — twelfth man "against Australia in the one-day international on Saturday — and the promising young medium pace bowler Mark Carrington (Northern Districts) will also add interest to the match. The North Island team for the match at Napier is: Geoff Howarth (Northern Districts) Mark Carrington (Northern Districts). Ewan Chatfield (Wellington). Jeremy Coney (Wellington). Martin Crowe (Auckland). Stu Gillespie (Northern Districts). Ewan Gray (Wellington). Evan McSweeney (Wellington). John Morrinson (Wellington). John Reid (Auckland). Peter Webb (Auckland), and John Wright (Northern Districts).
