General forecast: The cold front is expected to cross the South Island during the day. and move bn to the far south of the North Island in the evening, by which time it will be very weak. Rain should ease to showers this morning on the West Coast and in Southland and Otago, with sunny periods increasing in the afternoon in inland Otago and Southland, and north of Haast. A south-westerly change may bring isolated coastal showers to Canterbury in the morning, reaching Wellington and Wairarapa in the evening. Fine elsewhere. District forecasts: Canterbury; Fine and warm. North-easterlies about the coast, and north-westerlies inland, fresh at times: a change to moderate cooler south-westerlies spreading north during the morning will give some rain about the Alps, and isolated light showers along the coast. Nelson: Mainlv fine, but

some cloudy areas this afternoon and showers about the western ranges; light variable winds at first, but cooler southwesterlies later today. Marlborough: Fine and warm, variable winds inland. but northerlies freshening near the coasts and becoming strong today about the Sounds; however a change to moderate southerlies with isolated coastal showers, this evening. Buller: Occasional rain spreading from the south this .morning, however sunnj’ periods increasing in the afternoon; moderate westerlies.
