Bascik cycling team in startling form

Even during its most successful days a year ago. the Bascik team has not known such allround domination as it did recently at Denton Park. The professional cycling team had only three of its members riding, but in six races, they recorded an astonishing six victories. four second placings and two thirds.

In fact, considering Graham Schist was the sole Bascik B grader, and Bascik could thus only win one placing in the B grade 400 m, the only “failure” to take first and second placings came in the 8000 m. Otherwise, it was red and white jersies all the way, the startlingly improved Schist winning three times, Terry Gyde twice and Mike Doyle the other.. Three times, too, they completely hogged the placings, in the “Devil take the hindmost,” and in the wheelrace. Almost as total as the Bascik successes were those of Craig Adair. His third straight win in the amateur ■ DB Breweries 1000 m series took Adair out to a commanding lead of seven points, this even though the points structure is kept deliberately close in an effort to stop one rider streaking away to an early lead. Already Adair seems unbeatable, and he cemented his claims as the evening's outstanding performer with wins in the points race and in the 8000 m, the latter again contested at a very fast clip. Unlike the amateur series, the novices’ DB 1000 m series is being

extremely keenly contested, with no rider outstanding. With Jason Smith. Kerry Kampjes and the rapidly-improving Dean Kinzett taking the major placings for the first time, only three points separate the first five riders. Perhaps the most interesting feature of the novice racing, however, was the quite startling speed shown by Tim Clyne and Dean Harvey at the finish of the 4000 m. When they made their moves in the final 250 m, no-one, not even the suitably impressive Darrel Kircher, had any answer, and they were left alone to fight out an enthralling battle, with Clyne just triumphing.
