Speakers at stadium

Sir.—As organisers of the recent international athletics meeting at Queen Elizabeth II stadium, the Canterbury Centre, N.Z. Amateur Athletics Association, has been concerned to receive a number of complaints about the public address system at the stadium. Investigations have established that, through a switching error, the main bank of speakers was not in use for the January 23 meeting. An apology has been received from the park manager for this mistake and the Canterbury Centre would in turn wish to extend an apology to any of your readers who may have had their enjoyment of the competition curtailed by an inability to decipher the announcements. We trust that this problem will be avoided at the forthcoming national championships to be held at the stadium on March 6 and 7. — Yours, etc.,

ROD SYME, President, Canterbury Centre. February 5, 1982.
