MARINE RESERVES ACT 1971 POOR KNIGHTS ISLANDS MARINE RESERVE DRAFT BY-LAWS NOTICE is hereby given that the Management Committee of the above marine reserve is to. introduce bylaws for the reserve pursuant to section 14 o( the Marine Reserves Act 1971. The bylaws regulate the conduct of persons within the Poor Knights Islands Marine Reserve, and the conduct of scientific study in the reserve. A brief description ot the proposed provisions is as follows: 1 Except for areas ot the reserve that are closed for scientific study, the public has unrestricted access to and the right to dive in the reserve. 2 Vessels may be anchored in the reserve so long as damage is kept to the minimum practicable level, but no vessel may be anchored within a 'closed area or within 100 metres ol a buoymarking a closed area. 3 There is a speed restriction of 5 knots imposed on all vessels operating within 200 metres of the shore, and a requirement that a watch be kept from all vessels lor divers using the reserve. 4 Any person wisning to undertake scientific study in the reserve is required to apply in writing to the Management Committee not later than 1 month before the commencement of the study. 5 Areas of the reserve can be closed tor scientific study, and such areas must be clearly marked by bright yellow buoys. The bylaws will be published in the New Zealand Gazette and it is intended that tney will come into force on the Ist day of March, 1982.
