Ship’s officer lost

PA Nelson Ships in the area north of d’Urville Island where a Taiwanese seaman fell overboard on Tuesday night are being asked to keep a watch for the man. Captain A. P. C. Whitley of the Ministry of Tranport’s search and rescue co-ordinat-ing centre in Wellington said they would do nothing more, but vessels in the area were being asked to keep a look out.

He said it was most unlikely the man would be found alive now. The man, chief officer of the fishing vessel Shinhai No. 12, fell overboard at 11.30 p.m. on Tuesday when the vessel was 15 to 20 miles north of d’Urville Island. His name was not available. A light aircraft from Nelson was, called into the search yesterday morning but no sightings were made.
