Standoff and his sister. Saunter, worked soundly at Woodville yesterday morning in their final trials for the Carterton meeting tomorrow. On the plough, Standoff ran from the 1000 m speeding up over the last 800 m in 51.95. the final 600 m in 395. He ran a good race for fourth in the Adams at Trentham last week, and appeals strongly in the Carterton Metric Mile. Saunter tackles the Wairarapa Thoroughbred Breeders’ Stakes. She galloped 1200 m in Imin 17.95, the last 600 m in 38.75, but her task tomorrow looks tough. Belmore looked ready to race well in the second
Belvedere Maiden when he went with Alto over 1200 m in lmin 18.35. After a slow start they ran the last 1000 m in lmin 4s and final 600 m in 39.35. Paratrooper ran 1000 m in lmin 10s, the last 600 m in 41.55. He is in the first Belvedere Maiden. High Idea, another Metric Mile runner, went 1200 m in lmin 19.25. the last 1000 m in lmin 5.4 s and 600 m in 40.25. The Foxton winner, Makorby, ran 1200 m in lmin 20.15, the last 600 m in 39.25. He should show up again in the Clareville Handicap. Bruce Marsh is taking a team to Wairoa. The leading apprentice, Maree Lyndon, will ride on all three days, and will not be at Tauherenikau tomorrow.
