El Salvador

. Sir,—ln September last year, the United States Senate imposed certain conditions on the future supply of military aid to El Salvador, one of which was that the El Salvadorean Government must move to control its security forces “so as to bring an end to the indiscriminate torture and murder of Salvadorean citizens” (“The Press,” September 26). Yet now, the Reagan Administration is sending $55 million in military equipment at the same time as reports are coming out about yet another massacre by the military of 700 villagers. There have been at least two other similar

slaughters, both' of which were Witnessed by United States priests and relief workers, yet the Reagan Administration “doubts” that this, massacre took place. Continued United States military assistance can only prolong the suffering. The one common plea-of all the people I met in El Salvador was for the United States to withdraw support from the Government so that the war might come to an . end. —

Yours, etc., LYN JACKSON February 2, 1982.
