Class sizes
Sir,—l am horrified by the fact that two of my children, at State primary and intermediate schools, are in classes of 38 and 39. Unfortunately, these huge classes are becoming the norm. I fear for the education of the children and I fear for the well-being of their teachers. Is it cynical to suspect that such conditions will drive enough teachers out of the service to provide a neat answer to the teacher unemployment crisis? Could the Minister not find a more logical and humane solution to the problems of overcrowded classrooms, empty classrooms, overburdened teachers and unemployed teachers? — Yours, etc.,
T. J. McMAHON February 3, 1982.
