Rail units tested
PA Wellington Wellington’s new Hungar-ian-built rail units have been put through their paces in their first track tests since arriving in December.
A two-car set, one powered car and a trailer, took a test run on the Paekakariki line while engineers examined running performance, acceleration, braking, and the unit's ability to climb. Fifteen of the 44 units the Railways will buy for $33 million have arrived in New Zealand and have alreadyhad static tests on their electrical and wiring systems Thev are expected to be in service bv early March.
