Crossings unsafe?

PA Auckland The Auckland Coroner, Mr A. D. Copeland, has asked the Railway Department to improve its level crossings after the death of a boy who was hit by a train in Mt Albert. The Coroner said he was worried about the number of level crossing accidents in recent years and thought the department should improve the crossings. “Some crossings go back to the days when they served sparsely populated rural areas,” he said. “Nowadays things have changed and many of the old crossings service busy city areas. It is time the department upgraded them.” The Coroner found that

Craig John Bicknell, aged 12. of Mt Albert, died from multiple injuries suffered when he was struck by a train on December 8 last year.
