Ripper failure
The Yorkshire Ripper, serving life imprisonment for 1.3 murders, would have been caught sooner and several
lives saved if the police had been more efficient, the Home Secretary (Mr William
Whitelaw) has told Parliament. ’•There were major errors of judgment by the police and some inefficiencies in the conduct of the operation at various levels." An official report into the Ripper case, ordered by Mr Whitelaw. said Sutcliffe was questioned by the police nine times between 1975 and his arrest in January last year. — London.
