Second ‘ski plane’
Mount Cook Airlines yesterday took delivery of its second $500,000 Pilatus Porter aircraft. The aircraft landed at Christchurch Airport late in the afternoon after a flight from Lord Howe Island which was the last leg of a delivery flight from Switzerland.
It will be put into service immediately as a ski-plane
serving the Mount Cook and Southern Alps region. The airline's public affairs director. Mr E. G. Beckett, said that the delivery flight began on January 3. and was taken at a leisurely pace. The pilot was an expatriate. Mr Noel Kinvig from Wairarapa. who was employed by Pilatus. In October the airline completed an eight week as-
sessment of a similar aircraft. and it was found to be suitable. That model had since proved popular with passengers, said Mr Beckett. The order tor the second plane was made in December. and one that was on the assembly line at that time was "reserved" for Mount Cook.
