TV for adults or children
Sir. — I would like to congratulate Mark Bray on his letter (January 8), on sports coverage on our television stations. Surely, in a sporting country such as New Zealand, two hours on Saturday afternoon from, 5ay.,2.30 p.m. to 4.30 p.m., could be given to sport instead of the children's programme. 1 These young people.
who are conveniently confronted with television viewing by their parents, will in future, be conversational failures, having relied on television as their entertainment in younger life. On January 9. at Trentham, the National Rifle Association held its full-bore rifle championships finals, where 50 of the best riflemen were to shoot shoulder to shoulder to sort out who would be the proud winner of the Ballinger Belt. This signifies a New Zealand champion. On this day, neither of our television channels recognised this event.— Yours, etc., ERIC ALEXANDER. Januarv 10. 1982.
