Sport on TV

Sir.— When one particular sport occupies a long time on television, who pays? Does television provide the sport concerned or is the sport liable for payment to television? Recently’ there has been golf, tennis, cricket and now tennis again on Wednesday. January 13. for almost five hours. There has been a lot of dissatisfaction over the repeats shown and an explanation printed in "The Press” on January 7 which is quite acceptable, except for one sentence: "Many people are itinerant at this time of the year... We do not like playing major programmes... Many people are away from home." There are also many people at home who cannot afford to go away on holiday and who do not appreciate so many repeats. I feel it is a rather high-handed statement and once more the "haves" get preference over the "havenots."- Yours, etc., E. WALTERS. January 11, 1982.
