Chch driver wins karting series

Doug Drake, of Christchurch, won the 100 cu. cm Yamaha class in the annual kart racing series at Waiau. A total of 35 Karters from Blenheim. Kaikoura, Christchurch and Wellington, made up a field which contested 16 races. Drivers contested four heats of six laps on the demanding onekilometre circuit. The 22 entries in the lOOcc Yamaha class provided some very spirited racing. The Beta Cars racing team of Doug Drake and Murray Davies looked set to dead-heat the series, but in the last heat Robert Oakley got it all together and beat Davies, leaving the series to Drake. Results:
