Attack motive sought
PA Auckland Police still seek a motive for the attack on an Avondale man at his home early vesterday morning. Mr John Trevett, aged 34, of Great North Road, was beaten and robbed by two men, one armed with a pistol and the other with a baseball bat, when he returned to his house just after midnight. His attackers tied him at the ankles and knees with pyjama cord and bound his
hands behind his back before fleeing with $4O and a transistor radio. A spokesman for Middlemore Hospital said last evening that Mr Trevett was “progressing favourably” after surgery on a broken right elbow. He also suffered severe bruising to the other elbow and right knee. After the two men left the house. Mr Trevett, a tow truck driver, managed to
free the cord from his ankles and stumble to a neighbour's house. A stocking had been stuffed in his mouth and held with tape. Detectives were not able to obtain much information from Mr Trevett yesterday, as he was still dazed. A ponce spokesman said there was no description of the attackers.
