Wright makes history
PA Auckland John Wright, the Northern Districts opener, became the first batsman to score a century in each innings of a Shell Trophy match when yesterday he added 105 to the 113 he scored against Auckland at Eden Park on Tuesday. "1 feel 1 am in pretty good form. I am better now against the spinners,” said Wright after his 105 had led Northern to a brilliant win over Auckland. "But there is still a lot of the season to go. and I hope I haven't used up all my runs,” he said. Wright is the first Shell series batsman to score a century in each innings, for Glenn Turner last achieved the feat in domestic cricket in 1974-75, the last season of the Plunket Shield competition. Once the season is over. Wright will return to county cricket with Derbyshire to start a new two-year contract which he expects to be stretched to three years. He is due for his county benefit in five years.
