Heaphy Track
Sir,—l have read, with some concern, that a vehicle track is being cut into the rugged, but fragile, Gouland Downs area of the Heaphy Track. Many people of all nationalities walk the track every year to enjoy the unspoilt scenery and diversity of plant and bird life. I have made tne trip twice, and hope that when I do so again I will not find that tne track has been "developed" into a four-wheel-drive road. Can the persons or department responsible please reassure me tnat they are making an essential improvement which will in no way detract from the character of the track? — Yours, etc.. BEVERLEY
