Chess title to Soviet

NZPA Hastings England Viktor Kupreichik. the 32-year-old Soviet chess grandmaster. yesterday won the grandmaster tournament at the Hastings International Chess Congress. New Zealand's Murray Chandler drew his final game against Manvel Rivas of Spain in 20 moves to finish

in eleventh place. Kupreichik regained the title for the Soviet Union after a five-year failure by Soviet players to take the top prize at Britain’s most prestigious chess competition. Last year the Soviets did not compete because the organisers said the players nominated by Moscow were second-class.
