Test station queues
Queues are again starting to build up at Christchurch’s three vehicle-testing stations. Staff at the Ministry of Transport testing stations in Tuam Street and Cranford Street say that queues are starting to grow as motorists have their vehicles tested before departing on Christmas holidays. The situation is the same at the Sockburn testing station, administered by the Paparua County Council, on the Main South Road. A spokesman at the Tuam Street station said that motorists had to wait about half an hour to have their
vehicles tested. A rush was usually expected at Christmas because people often brought in their caravans, boat trailers, and trailers to have them tested before the holidays. Motorists also have to wait slightly longer than usual at the Sockburn and Cranford Street testing stations. Sockburn is the only station which extends its hours near Christmas. It will be open on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. All testing stations will be closed on the statutory holidays over the Christmas and New Year period.
