Carols at Q.E. II a success

More than 2000 people braved the heat .yesterday afternoon to sing carols at Queen Elizabeth II Park. “Carols in the Park" was organised by the Salvation Army, with the support of the Christchurch Lions Club, to raise money for the Citadel building fund. “The event went very well,” said a member of the organising committee, Mr Bert Walker. “The large stand was more than half full. It was quite an exciting occasion,” he said. The crowd was not as large as the committee had hoped for, said Mr Walker, but with admission fees of $2 a head or $3 a family, a reasonable sum had been raised. “It was an outstanding performance which will probably be run again next year,” he said.
