Market more active

Trading picked up on a firm New Zealand sharemarket yesterday in contrast to sessions earlier in the week when fewer shares were traded. N.Z. News stood out on a gain of 25c to 280 c, but Winstone eased 3c to 89c in spite of announcing an improved half-yearly result. The continuing losses at its Karioi mill may have kept its price down. Among the market leaders. Dominion Breweries. Fletcher Challenge, and N.Z. Forest Products were firmer, but Crown, Lane Walker Rudkin, and Mair were easier. PDL Holdings reached 350 c after a 5c gain, and Reid Farmers rose 7c to 332 c, after trading at 340 c earlier in the day.
