Evonne Cawley beaten
NZPA Melbourne Australia's Evonne Cawley, in her third comeback to international tennis, was bundled out of the $200,000 Toyota Australian women’s open at Kooyong by Martina Navratilova in a quar-ter-final match yesterday afternoon. Navratilova, the third seed, cruised through to the semifinals with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Cawley. The Queenslander. Wendy Turnbull, limped through to the
semi-finals with a heart-stopping win over the American teen-age star, Andrea Jaeger. Turnbull, bandaged on her lei' thigh and right ankle, finally subdued the 16-year-old, 6-3. 7-6. The American, Chris EvertLloyd, knocked the defending champion, Hana Mandlikova, out of the tournament in a match she described as “sloppy and of poor quality.” The top-seeded Evert-Lloyd had a 6-4, 7-5 win over the young Czech.
