Youth aid officer assaulted
PA Auckland An Otahuhu police youth aid officer was attacked when he took an absconder from a boys’ home back to the boy’s parents on Thursday evening. The boy’s father and four of his friends at the Otara house allegedly attacked Constable Ken Brewer with fists, feet, and broken glass. The youth aid officer was in casual clothes and had arrived in an unmarked police car, but had told the boy’s father who he was. Constable Brewer was badly bruised and needed several stitches to a gash on the arm. He was discharged from Middlemore Hospital after treatment. * Otahuhu detectives later arrested five men who were to be charged with aggravated assault. The teen-age absconder ran off during the attack and the police are looking for him.
