Cause ‘mystery’
PA Auckland A leaking water main was not the cause of the big landslip at Grey Lynn; Auckland, yesterday morning, according to an Auckland City Council official. But the cause was a mystery late last evening in spite of an all-day investigation. The council’s director of
works, Mr Bruce Anderson, last evening discounted the possibility of a leaking water main, which had earlier been suggested, being the reason for the slip. Engineers were satisfied that water at the scene of the slip was no more than surface ground water which had collected in pockets of earth.
