Assault by musician brings probation
PA Auckland A musician who assaulted his girlfriend and her daughter, aged seven, was released on 12 months probation when he appeared in' 1 the District Court at Auckland yesterday. Graeme William Turner, aged 27, of Grey Lynn, appeared before Judge Mitchell for sentence. He had pleaded guilty to charges of assaulting a female and assaulting a girl, aged seven. Mr J. D. Gerard, for Turner, said that his-client had achieved prominence in the musical field with a band he had been with, Hello Sailor. Turner was at a stage where he either had to make the most of his situation or enter into a “backward slide." Mr Gerard said that Turner had used an open hand on the child, but had not behaved as a normal parent would. Turner had taken issue with the extent
of the beatings, and said that they were not as severe as outlined in the probation report. Mr Gerard said that Turner had been trying to get off methadone, and his physical condition had improved markedlv.
