Man guilty of forgery
PA Hamilton After a two-day jury trial in the District Court at Hamilton, a former traffic officer has been found guilty op four charges of forgery. The charges relate to Peter Fulcher, who is in custody in Australia for drug offences, the court was told. Cerreti Peter Mariu, aged 32, a laboratory technician, had pleaded not guilty to charges connected with forging a motor driver’s licence in 1979 in the name of Wayne Shepherd. He appeared before Judge Latham and a jury. He was remanded on $/50
bail, with a surety of $750, to December 17 for a report and sentence. The court was told that the licence was found in the possession of Fulcher after a police search of his Christchurch motel room in July, 1979. Fulcher was later convicted of making a false application for a passport in the name of Wayne Shephard. Inquiries about the licence and a birth certificate for Wayne Shepherd, also found in the motel, led to the arrest of Mariu in April, 1980, the court was told.
