Burglars take safes
The Halswell Post Office was broken into twice on Monday night, but the burglars got little. The first burglary was about 11 p.m. Nothing was taken. In the early hours of yesterday a safe was stolen from the post office, but the burglars' were obviously unaware that it was both unlocked and empty. The safe was found yesterday, dumped in a ditch in Winters Road, Mairehau. Another safe, which had been stolen from the premises of Pinewood and Hardware, Ltd, in Sawyers Arms Road, was found by the police yesterday in Prestons Road, Mairehau. It was sitting on a stolen trailer, with stolen acetylene cutting gear. It was not known if any ■ money had been taken from the safe.
