School staffing
Sir.—When- unprecedented measures occur, such as the announcement of new quotas tor teacher trainees (after some of them have already been notified of acceptance), then unprecedented .measures of selection must be involved. In yoUr paper recently, it was discussed that only candidates with the minimum qualifications at the time of interview, might be accepted in the future. Should that not apply this year under these most unfortunate circumstances, and perhaps those non U.E. applications this year could heguaranteed a place ,in. next year’s intake. Surely a further year’s maturity could only be beneficial to the quality of future teachers. It would seem that those people whose interviews were arranged, later in the selection programme, have been penalised through no fault of their own. — Yours, etc., , E. HAMPTON. ! November 24, 1981.
