As Jack Smplenski headed Lord' Module back towards the birdcage? the cheering and applause were renewed, many in the crowd surgingto the fence to obtain a close view. The rousing reception almost drowned out the course commentator, Mr Reon Murtha, when he announced that the national record for 2600 m had been broken by more than a second. To page 25
