World Cup player leaving Woolston
The New Zealand World Cup soccer mid-fielder, Allan Boath, has resigned from Christchurch’s Woolston Working Men’s Club. The 23-year-old former Scottish youth international played for Woolston in 197879 as well as last season, but the club’s relegation from the Rothmans national league this year is likely to have prompted a search for greener pastures. Boath’s name has been linked in recent weeks with the search by the newlypromoted league side, Invercargill Thistle, for experienced players. But a return to his 1980 club, Christchurch Mogal United, might also be in the offing. The recently-married Boath left with “no hard feelings’’ from Woolston, ac-
cording to the club secretary, Sheryl Porter. “He has always done a really hard job for our club,” she said. “We are happy to see him at the top.”
