Programme on genital herpes
Sir,—After viewing last evening the most informative, if alarming programme on genital herpes, I would like to say that I find it extremely easy to understand why there has been a 53 per cent increase in the incidence of this disease over the last 10 years.. How the hierarchy of broadcasting, who have easy access to thousands of minds throughout New Zealand, can veto the screening of medical slides which would enable contractors of this disease easily identify symptoms which may otherwise be easily ignored, is beyond my comprehension. Surely those who may find such material offensive could be warned by a statement issued in the “Listener” and by TV programme, advertising, in order that they" may choose to view or not. I feel the more information made public could only help in bringing about an awareness of this so far incurable disease and as a consequence may halt the increase. — Yours, etc., JAN GLASS. December 12. 1981.
