The fastest lap time of the season was recorded by Tony Cardwell and Mike Allan in separate events at the Woodford Glen speedway on Saturday evening.
Their time, 21.45, was 0.6 s outside the track record 'of 20.85. Cardwell’s time was recorded in the Hertz Rent-a-Car event when he and Jumbo Berryman had a duel in an effort to catch the race leader, lan Shrimpton. Cardwell eventually won the race with Berryman second.
Allan continued his domination of the Sportsman class by winning two of the three races. His fast lap time was recorded in the Seekers Communication race when he was chasing the leader, Neville McKenzie, who had cleared out to a large lead from the pole position. In the Taito Video Machines stock car teams race, the Kaiapoi Car Wreckers team, headed by Gerald Griffiths, scored a convincing win. This win was achieved in spite of Griffiths
being disqualified after the first race.
