Riccarton in commanding lead

Riccarton took a clear lead in the senior women’s cricket competition when it beat Sydenham in the round played on Friday and Saturday. Sydenham declared at 82 for nine in its first innings and Riccarton replied with 129 for five declared, Lesley Murdoch compiling a fine unbeaten 64. The Sydenham batting crumbled against an excellent display of bowling by Sheree Harris (five for 35) and the team was dismissed for 94 in spite of a determined innings of 43 by Nancy Williams. Riccarton needed only 47 for victory, but it had to struggle before it reached its target for the loss of five wickets. Sue Brown bowled well for her four for 25.
