Yacht race to Raider

PA Timaru ThS annual Lyttelton-to-Timaru ocean yacht race was won in handsome style yesterday by the new yacht, Southern Raider.

Fresh from her impressive Southern Cross trial win, the syndicate-owned Christchurch craft crossed the line well clear of the rest of the fleet in mid-afternoon.

Crusader gained the early lead in the race by taking the in-shore breeze but Southern Raider was never headed after moving to the front off Akaroa. The Christchurch catamaran, Freedom Machine, was second into Timaru last evening, with Granny Apple third. The rest of the fleet were expected to sail into the port during‘the night.
