Unionism
Sir,—During a recent meeting at the Auckland Town Hall Mr Muldoon stated that the F.O.L. was falling into the “hands of the extreme Left” (“The Press,” November 9). Obviously the majority of New Zealand workers are political moderates not rabid Leftists so how had this blatant Left-wing domination taken place? In 1975, Mr Muldoon was elected on a party platform which included the abolition of compulsory unionism — the Government was elected on a big majority, yet 6 years later compulsory unions, communist domination, and ridiculous strikes are even worse. No major party has made a stand against compulsory unionism this year, but it is common knowledge that many individual candidates vigorously support voluntary unionism. I therefora recommend that every voter concerned with this issue personally contacts every candidate in his electorate and finds out each candidate’s individual. views on the subject. This is a safer way to find a worthy M.P. than swallowing large amounts of party political propaganda.—Yours, etc., S. BURBERY. November 9, 1981.
