General Election
Sir,—Last Monday evening a combined candidates' meeting was advertised and held in Oxford so that people in the Rangiora Electorate had a chance of meeting the three candidates in the General Election. Unfortunately. the National candidate, Mr Quigley, was not present at the meeting. His excuse was that he had already had four public meetings in Oxford and that he was addressing another meeting in the North Island. From the Social Credit and Labour candidates we heard excellent speeches both questioning the “Think Big” strategy but there was no-one there from the National Party to defend it. Perhaps they cannot defend it. Both the other two candidates indicated in their speeches that at least three months notice was given of this combined meeting and yet Mr Quigley failed to turn up. A National M.P. and Cabinet Minister should front up in his own electorate to what has always been a traditional meeting of all the candidates-Yours, etc., R. A. BROWN. November 11, 1981.
