Family affair

The Christchurch iris show turned into a family affair in the Horticultural Hall yesterday when Mrs Ina Mumberson won the new second-day award for “queen of the show.” On Wednesday Mrs Mumbersoh’s son, Richard, aged 14, won the premier award for the best bloom in the show. The "queen of the show” award is based on similar awards made at iris shows in

the United States, and is for the spike of blooms judged to be the best in the show on the second day. Mrs Mumberson’s winning entry was a spike of the bicolour variety, Betty Simon. Mrs Mumberson also won the special award for the exhibitor winning the most points. She gained 47, and was a long way ahead of the field.
