Ces Mountford to coach Kiwis
Ces Mountford, of Auckland, has been reappointed coach of the New Zealand rugby league team to tour Australia and Papua New Guinea next season. It was no surprise that Mr Mountford should retain the position ahead of the four other applicants. The Kiwis have returned to a place of prominence in international rugby league since Mr Mountford assumed the
coaching role in 1979, and it was logical that he be retained for the challenge to Australia’s world supremacy. The team manager will be Jim Campbell, a member of the code’s national council in Auckland. He was formerly a prominent administrator in Wellington and represents that province on the council. The possibility of sending an assistant coach with the side is to be considered
