Import ban on some pens
PA Wellington Writing instruments worth less than $1.50 f.o.b. (free-on-board) have been withdrawn from import licence schedules for the meantime, according to the Minister of Trade and Industry (Mr Adams-Schneider). Writing instruments had been subject to an Industries Development Commission study after an Emergency Protection Authority hearing, he said. This means that no writing instruments of that value can be imported until the study is finished, when there could be a different tariff structure. Arrangements were being made to issue import licences for traditional fountain pens with metal nibs and other industrial writing instruments not available from domestic sources.
