N.Z. semi-finals tonight

By

BOB SCHUMACHER

• Four semi-finals of the New Zealand championship and the final of the America’s Trophy for class-2 dogs will provide exciting fare at the Christchurch Greyhound Racing Club’s oncourse totalisator meeting at Queen Elizabeth II Park this evening. Two longtails, Bob Con3uest and Trudy Hobbs, will ominate betting in the America’s Trophy race over 560 m. Both were impressive winners of their heats a fortnight ago and they recorded times faster than that of the New Zealand champion, Tredeka Lass, which won the class 5 race that evening. By coincidence, both greyhounds have drawn the same traps from which they won their heats. Bold Conquest will jump the box No. 2 and Trudy Hobbs from No. 8. If either Bold Conquest or Trudy Hobbs is beaten it will be a big surprise. Petite Dancer, a strong finisher, and Hasty Holly, which has. the inside trap, appeal as likely place-getters. Last year’s champion, Tredeka Lass, will be a raging favourite for the first

semi-final of the national championship with the 1980 runner-up, Go Benjamin, the other likely qualifier. Devoted Lady will be? suited by her wide draw in the second semi-final and should prevail ahead of Sir Hollow and Killarney Angel. Argent Wave, a strong finishing second at her last start, the capable Spanish Stroll, and two visiting dogs, Mac The Taff (Otago) and Ronwin Girl (Wellington), give the third semi-final an even look while the two qualifiers from the fourth should be the very consistent Wadderin Boy and the talented Auckland bitch, Guardian Royal.
